According to official SAPS reports, on Friday, December 30th, 2022, the Provincial Tracking Team made a shocking arrest as the busted a 37-year-old illegal foreigner for committing fraud in Mahlesedi Park outside of Polokwane.

As reported by the SAPS, on December 23rd, the suspect approached a woman employed at the Department of Arts and Culture and claimed to have R2.5 million that was stained with black dye. He then asked her for R200,000 in cash to purchase a special substance to remove the dye, promising to pay her back with R400,000.
The victim, hopeful for the chance to acquire more money, made a withdrawal and gave the cash to the suspect. However, her suspicions were soon aroused and she reported the incident to the police, who launched an investigation.
On Friday, December 30th, the suspect called the victim and requested an additional R400,000, which she agreed to give him in collaboration with the police. An intelligence-led operation was carried out and the suspect was arrested at his rental home in Mahlasedi Park after receiving the money.
During the arrest, the suspect was found with counterfeit black money and substances or chemicals that were intended to wash away the black dye stains, as well as the remaining R161,000 in cash belonging to the victim. Further police investigations uncovered that the suspect was in the country illegally, leading to an additional charge of Contravention of Immigration Act.


The suspect is now facing charges of fraud, illegal immigration, and possession of counterfeit money, and will soon appear in the Polokwane Magistrates’ Court. This shocking incident serves as a reminder of the constant threat of fraud and the importance of remaining vigilant against it. It is also a sobering reminder of the issue of illegal immigration and the need for strict laws and enforcement to protect our citizens.
